NEOSHO HIGH SCHOOL BUILDING GOALS
Students can dual-enroll and earn up to 12 hours of college credit during their senior year. Juniors who meet the criteria may also earn college credit. Our own Crowder College has established an excellent program for students to get a head start with their college education. NHS offers a College Preparatory Certificate and the President's Award for Educational Excellence. Students who complete the college preparatory program score above the national average on the ACT. Accelerated and advanced curriculum courses are offered in all academic areas. Criteria required by the Missouri State Board of Education and the U.S. Department of Education for these awards are outlined in the student handbook. Valedictorian, salutatorian and the top twenty are all selected based on class rank. Numerous scholarships awarded annually, and many students participate in academic endeavors across the state and nation. NHS MINIMUM GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS
Students attend eight semesters in grades 9-12, except when permission is granted for Early Out or Part-time Attendance. NHS IS A+ Neosho High is a Missouri A+ Designated School. Students are eligible to receive free tuition, books and fees at any public Missouri junior college or vocational/technical school. To qualify students must meet the following requirements. (Based on continued state funding and R-5 A+ designation.)
The A+ grant and aggressive pursuit of other grants continue to propel NHS into the world of technology. The entire district is connected through a WAN. Students have access to a 30 unit, Windows 95 lab four business labs and a technology lab that are linked to our WAN. Each classroom is equipped with a computer and linked to the network via a T1 line. Our library is fully automated, providing students with access to a wide variety of information and resources. An ITV classroom is available for on-site dual enrollment courses. These labs allow students to take technology related courses such as computer applications, computer programming, computer assisted drafting, multimedia, internet, exploration of technology business publications, finance/investment and graphics technology. The Wildcat News is broadcast school wide from our own news desk. Students in the Graphics Technology Class produce the weekly show. VOCATIONAL PROGRAMS Cooperative Occupational Education (COE) Students participate in an internship program designed to place accepted students in an approved training station that directly contributes to the development of the competencies necessary for successful employment in the field of marketing. Crowder College Vocational-Technical Program Courses in collision repair, auto mechanics, building trades, drafting, electronics, health occupations, cosmetology, welding machine tool and custodial maintenance are all offered in the vo-tech program. Articulation agreements are available to students who wish to earn high school and college credit for these courses. Vocational Agriculture A wide variety of programs is offered in agriculture including floriculture, greenhouse management, nursery and landscape and fish/wildlife management. Students participate in FFA and a supervised agricultural experience. MILITARY Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFJROTC) By enrolling in Aerospace Science courses, students become cadets of the Missouri 41st Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps. Courses of study will introduce cadets to the history of manned flight, the development of airpower, the science of flight, the exploration of space, and leadership principles. In addition, cadets will be taught the basic principles of citizenship and community service. While in the program, cadets may participate in activities such as, military balls, dining-outs, field trips to military installations and air shows, and compete in area drill meets. Uniforms are provided at no charge to the cadets. Completion of the AFJROTC program places the cadet in a better position to compete for ROTC college scholarships and military academy appointments. For those cadets who opt to enter into military service, successful cadets may enter the armed services at a pay grade (possibly two grades higher) than most enlistees. Even those cadets who wish not to pursue a military career, will benefit from the leadership and character development that comes with participating with the Corps of Cadets. The experience will give cadets a competitive advantage, regardless of their chosen career path. STUDENT RECOGNITION Calling All To Success (CATS) CATS is an incentive program designed to encourage positive student outcome by rewarding students with community incentives for good attendance, good grades and good behavior. CATS includes four levels, each having different criteria and rewards. Students must apply for the program at the end of each semester. Student of the Month Students are nominated by teachers for outstanding achievement in the classroom. A student is chosen anonymously from each grade level each month by a committee of teachers. Selected students receive various "honors" during the month, are featured in the newspaper and in the NEOHIMO. CLUBS & ORGANIZATIONS Neosho High School proudly supports a vast array of clubs and organizations. National champions in speech/debate to world champions in the Solar Bike Race make Neosho High School a great place for students to excel beyond the classroom. There is a club or organization available for all academic areas and interests. An elected Student Council provides students with a collective voice to administration and leadership for school wide activities. Students may volunteer for various student committees or run for an elected office. WILDCAT ATHLETICS A wide variety of athletic opportunities are available for boys and girls, grades 8-12. Wildcat athletes compete in basketball, football, volleyball, soccer, track, tennis, wrestling, golf, cross-country, softball, baseball and cheerleading. CAREER AWARNESS OPPORTUNITIES The Neosho Chamber of Commerce hosts an Ethics Workshop each year for seniors and juniors have the opportunity to job-shadow. Students are strongly encouraged to identify a career pathway and take advantage of various speakers, field trips and information available for their particular field of interest.
