Jeremy Phillips - Homework Assignments

There is seldom  homework in strength and conditioning but there will be a few assignments that involve setting goals (academically, athletically, and with class activities, tests, and lifts).  Other assignments will be used to prepare and evaluate testing which will happen at four different times in the school year (first of the year, between fall and winter sports, between winter and spring sports, and end of the year).

Make-up Policy for Strength and Conditioning
Every student begins each semester with 200 points.  An absence is minus 10 points regardless of why the student is gone.  The course is based on the work done during class time so any time missed must be made up for either before or after school.  All absences are made up for with 30 minutes of activity which can be the specific workout missed in class or a workout specific to the needs of the athlete.  No more than 2 days or 20 points of make-up can be made up for on a single day.

ISS Assignment/Extended Absence Homework

1 typed page will count for a day.   If you are in ISS you can do your research, write it out, and then type it when you have access to a computer.  The recommended make-up is still in the gym  but the following is an option if needed:

1)  Motivational story or testimonials for an athlete or coach.  Discuss their ability to overcome adversity and the factors that allowed them  to be successful despite their challenges.

2)  Motivational strategies for success.  Doesn’t have to be specifically geared to athletics but any ideas or concepts that allow people to be successful in the things they are involved with.

Weekly Objective
Students will prepare their mind and body for peak performance and character traits that will promote success in and out of sport.  Our goals in class target:  injury prevention, improved performance, character development, strength, endurance, flexibility development; and speed, agility, balance, reaction time, and power development.

Content Objective:
Students will learn, demonstrate, and apply the health and skill related physical fitness components.  Health related - muscular strength, muscular endurance, cardiovascular endurance, flexibility, and body composition.  Skill related - speed, power, agility, balance, coordination, and reaction time.
