Facts About The District

The Neosho R-5 School District enjoys a heritage of excellence and is recognized throughout the region for its quality education programs. The district has approximately 270 teachers and pupil enrollment exceeds 4,300 students, with a steadily increasing enrollment. The district boundaries encompass 222 square miles and transports about 2,600 students daily, using 45 bus routes and 4 handicapped student routes. The Neosho R-5 School District is the third largest employer in the Neosho community.

Academics

The Neosho School District is committed to the highest academic achievement possible for our students. The district has worked diligently to provide the students with numerous academic opportunities, as well as extracurricular ones. The teachers have been provided in-services on reading strategies and MAP preparation. Because of the importance on the MAP test, the teachers are making a concentrated effort to offer assessments that are aligned with the MAP-style questions. In addition to this, every school provides after-school tutoring for students who need additional help.

Vocational Education 

Through Crowder College Technical Education Center (CCTEC) our juniors and seniors can take 2-year programs in: Automotive Technology, Building Trades, Child Development, Collision Repair, Computer Tech & Electronics, Diesel Technology, Drafting & Green Technology, Health Science (Respiratory, CNA, EMT, Vet & Pharmacy tech) and Welding.  A wide variety of programs are offered in agriculture, including floriculture, greenhouse management, nursery, and landscape and fish/wildlife management. Students participate in FFA and a supervised agricultural experience.

Sports

The Neosho Athletic Department promotes the value of participation, sportsmanship, team play, and good life choices. A positive attitude and appreciation for higher standards of sportsmanship among all participants is our goal. A wide variety of athletic opportunities are available for boys and girls, grades 7-12. Wildcat athletes compete in basketball, football, volleyball, soccer, track, tennis, wrestling, golf, cross-country, softball, baseball, and cheerleading.

Educational Opportunities

Neosho is home to Crowder College, a public two-year community college. Crowder offers many community based courses for members of the community to learn different hobbies and trades. Neosho is also located within a 75 mile radius of 4 fully accredited four-year universities, in which individuals can further their education: 

  • Missouri Southern State University in Joplin, MO 
  • University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, AR 
  • Missouri State University in Springfield, MO 
  • Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, KS
